Whole Mackerel 1kg
Mackerels are very slender with an elongated round body (350-450g). They are usually deep blue and black on the back with dark vertical stripes and silver micro scales. Due to the Mackerel’s constant movement, its flesh is more muscular and darker in colour. Wild line-caught North of Scotland, our Mackerel comes in a kilo bag, usually 2-3 fish per bag. Their meaty texture and rich taste, makes them perfect for grilling or frying.
Mackerel is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids which can help with cardio-vascular health and brain function. These fish contain also Selenium, Vitamin B12, and protein and it has been shown to be effective for those who have problems with their memory and cognition. Mackerel is high in iodine, which is why it has been thought to be good for the thyroid.
Grilling, broiling and pan-frying are the best ways to cook mackerel, in India it is often fried in mustard oil seasoned salt and Turmeric. Perfect sides for this fish are sauteed potatoes, grilled vegetables or a zesty salad. Try pairing your Mackerel dish with nice bottle of Muscadet or Pino Grigio.
